What are the best irons in golf for a low handicapper looking to go to the next level?
I was looking at the Titleist AP2, Ping S57, and Mizuno MP58, but any suggestions are good ones.
Being a PGA Professional I fit golfers for irons almost everyday. The hardest thing I try to convince my students to do is forget about the PGA Tour when making this decision. We are not Tour players and do not swing like Tour players. Plus the fact Tour players are only playing clubs they get paid to play. Taylor Made has a great line, but do you really think all of these guys would be playing them if Taylor Made was not paying them? Sure some would, but not even close to all of them!
Now on to the clubs. The most important thing is the shaft! If you get the right shaft you can put any club head on the end of it and hit good shots, but switch that scenario around with the right club head and wrong shaft and watch you scores rise!
So you need to hit a lot of ball with all of these clubs and do this while charting them. Yes, take a pen and paper and write the direction of the shots, distance, and also feel of every shot. Then you pick the best shaft! Don’t let friends, Tour Players, or this forum influence you.
Go work hard on this. There are no short cuts! No words we say or questions you ask can even come close to giving enough information to select a shaft.
